It all began with that age-old desire to find the perfect, everyday ring. But with no luck at vintage markets and lack of any hidden gems at Vinnies, Matthew, founder of Merchants of the Sun took matters into his own hands. As the original collection designs that had been manifesting for years poured out of him there was a sense of a creative renaissance, why haven’t I been doing this all along kind of feeling? Collaborating with childhood friends in Indonesia, he connected with some incredibly talented artisans who brought these ideas into the real world. 

Everything is handmade and sourced from raw recycled materials, Mat’s ethos is based wholly on being able to originate timeless pieces without making a deal with the devil, a.k.a fast fashion. To date, he has donated over $23,000 to not-for-profit organisations including The Black Dog Institute, Mindful Aus and The Australian Cancer Council. It is fundamental to his business to always give back, in whichever way possible. Humility, sustainability, and ethical practices are first and foremost for Merchants of the Sun and this drive is making way for them as true trailblazers within the industry.
